Abstract: This paper studies anew the old topic of the quarrel between poetry and philosophy put forward by Plato. While the quarrel has been taken for granted, this study argues from a cross-disciplinary perspective that the so-called quarrel is a deception if we judge Plato’s temperament and dialogues as a whole. As Plato is both a poet and philosopher, poetry and philosophy are two discourses he adopts in approaching the same world. The actual relationship between poetry and philosophy is more dialogic than antagonistic. It is necessary for Platonic scholars of different fields to step across their disciplinary boundaries and learn from each other. This paper would to some extent update the scholarship about this topic and Plato.
