汉英口译中模糊限制语的使用与译员性别的关联考察—基于10场外事口译语料

Hedges in C-E Interpreting for Publicity and Its Correlation with the Gender of Interpreter

摘要: 模糊性是自然语言的一个基本属性。模糊限制语, 作为最典型、常见的模糊语言,它在言语交际中的使用其实是一种交际策略。本文拟从口译研究的话语对话交际范式出发,基于近15年来中国政府官方发布的10场外事口译男女译员各5场语料,借助话语分析的方法,转写并定量统计其中模糊限制语的数量及比例,旨在观察男女译员使用模糊限制语的比例与性别是否存在关联或差异,再定性地挖掘该差异背后的动因,从而为口译产品及译员表现研究提供一个新的性别视角。

Abstract: Vagueness is the basic nature of natural language. Hedges, as the most widely used language, are actually employed as communicative strategies in discourse. This paper collected ten government press conferences as research materials, which were interpreted by 5 five female interpreters and five male interpreters respectively. Then, this paper statistically analyzed the hedges in these ten transcribed texts, and compared the number of hedges used by female interpreters with the number of hedges used by male interpreters. Obviously, the research showed that the total number of hedges used in English was nearly twice of that used in Chinese. It suggested that the explicitation appeared in C-E interpreting. Meanwhile, the number of hedges used by male interpreter was a little fewer than that used by female interpreter. In the end, this paper tried to explore the reasons behind these differences so that to provide a new perspective for future researches on interpreting product and the performance of interpreter.
