Li Meixia, Jiao Aihui
Journal of Beijing International Studies University, 2014, 36(8): 1-.
The present article attempts to make a contrastive study of the semantic prosody of English and Chinese logical resultative formulae in terms of their collocation, colligation, semantic preferences, and evaluative polarity. The article points out that:first,English and Chinese logical resultative formulae are frequently employed to connect two linguistic elements and to express certain kinds of connective meaning;yet,in communication, owing to their frequent co-occurrence with the words having the same or similar meaning potential, they tend to convey certain types of attitudinal meaning;second, from both intra- and inter- lingual perspectives,it is found that logical resultative formulae with the same or similar denotative meaning differ in their semantic prosody;third, the differences between the semantic prosody of English and Chinese logical resultative formulae are related not only with two different language systems and conceptual systems of English and Chinese, but also with the national personality, ways of thinking and communication patterns, etc.

Analysis of the Use of Delexicalized Verb Constructions from Different Perspectives
Zhang Aipu
Journal of Beijing International Studies University, 2014, 36(8): 14-.
Delexicalized verb constructions(DVC)in English, as provisional verbal combinations, are a marked language phenomenon. By employing the theory of pragmatics and functional grammar, this paper aims to explore the underlying rules with regard to DVC in the English language. To be more exact, the author discusses the language phenomenon from three perspectives:semantics, pragmatics and text. This paper shows that DVC may sometimes be synonymous with simple verb constructions or cognate object constructions, but cannot be superseded by such constructions.Whichever construction is appropriate is strictly constrained by linguistic rules.Semantically, the use of DVC is constrained by individual lexical semantic differences, lexical semantic gap and constructional semantic differences. Pragmatically,it is constrained by pragmatically rhetorical rules.Textually, the use of DVC is spurred by the implicit coherence requirement. In addition, style may also play a role concerned with the use of DVC in some cases. Finally, the findings in this paper may present some suggestions for teaching English, and to some extent are practical for studying grammar.

Subjective Differences of Russian Causal Complex Sentence from the Perspective of Cognitive Domain
Zhang Jing
Journal of Beijing International Studies University, 2014, 36(8): 20-.
The causal structure is an expressive form of causal relationship in language. In the language expression layer, no matter how complex the causal structure is, there are only two phenomena through semantic predication coupling constituting the basic expression pattern of language: P→Q. раз and потому что are two typical marker words in Russian causal structure. Through an empirical survey of“раз”and“потому что”sentences in language database, we find that they have opposite tendencies in the choice of subjective and objective cognitive domain, and then we use the theory of subjective dimension of Nuyts to probe into the differences of subjectivity types between them.

Colonial Interpretation on the Metaphor of Daffodils in Caribbean English Literature
Zhang Jianping
Journal of Beijing International Studies University, 2014, 36(8): 48-.
Because metaphor enables people to share the experience or understand things in a faraway place, it is often adopted as the conspirator of colonialism. With the help of its function as a bridge, colonizers could transfer their languages and cultures to the colonized and assimilate the original ones. Moreover its variability of metaphor makes it undergo different interpretations after being received by the colonized. The poem of Daffodils by William Wordsworth as a metaphor is intended to ‘daffodilize’ or assimilate the Caribbean colonies. Based on the various interpretations of Daffodils in Caribbean English Literature, this paper aims to explore the reason why it had been deconstructed and reinterpreted. ‘The daffodil gap’ shows differences between the colonizer’s colonial intention and the decolonization of the colonized. Therefore, this analysis intrigues the profound thinking on ways of colonialism in the colonized culture.

Guo Yingjie
Journal of Beijing International Studies University, 2014, 36(8): 55-.
Referring to the theories of intertextuality, this paper has probes into Chinese elements in American new poetry movement between 1919 and 1949. Basically, American poetry of this period parodied not only Chinese poetic themes and forms but also Chinese poetic language and ways of thinking and writing;Chinese art served as a medium for American poets to get inspirations;through translating and introducing Chinese classical poets and their works as well as Chinese poetic“discourses”and theories,American poets acquired Chinese poetic influences ;the overseas Chinese scholars and students in America“expanded their horizon of the world”and exerted their effects unconsciously upon American new poetry construction with the help of their unique thought and works;and the valuable Chinese poetic translations published in European countries laid the foundation for the prosperous development of American new poetry in the future. Thus the significance of the study is that it clarifies intertextuality as a particular perspective of viewing Chinese and American poetic relationships between 1919 and 1949,proving that Chinese and American poetic texts are closely interweaved and they are basically dialogical and communicative.
