Journal of Beijing International Studies Universit, 2013, 35(11): 19-27.
Abstract( )   [HTML]()   PDF(4823KB)( )
From diachronic-synchronic analytical perspective, we use four criteria, namely, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, location quotient, Gini coefficient and market competition state, to analyze the disparity of inbound tourism scale in Shandong Province from 2000 to 2011 at three levels: the whole province, four regions and seventeen cities. We conclude that, firstly, while the absolute disparity of inbound tourism scale gradually increases, the relative disparity tends to decrease at the whole province level. The inbound tourism development in unbalanced state is showing a positive trend. Secondly, the four regions could be classified into four types: high level unbalanced, medium level unbalanced, low level balanced and low level unbalanced, according to inbound tourism scales of these regions and disparities among cities inside. And such scale disparities stated above could be verified at city level. Finally, we put forward some suggestions to promote inbound tourism development of these four regions.

Journal of Beijing International Studies Universit, 2013, 35(11): 28-37.
Abstract( )   [HTML]()   PDF(5023KB)( )
In the present work, the authors performed a study on the efficiency of 11 cities in Zhejiang province by using the Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA)to evaluate the tourism efficiency of these cities from 2002 to 2011, on the basis of which, space-time differences and variations of tourism efficiency were analyzed in detail. Results showed that differences among 11 cities were obvious, although the overall efficiency of Zhejiang province maintained relatively high. Tourism efficiency were related to the regional tourism economy, and fluctuated on the top level with the expansion of tourism economy. As a whole, tourism efficiency constantly improved, while efficiency differences among cities became smaller and tend to be stable. Diverse problems existed among 11 cities: Wenzhou and Jinhua are necessary for high utilization of tourism technology. Quzhou and Lishui which are in the stage of increasing returns to scale should appropriately increase the tourism investment. Ningbo, Wenzhou, Shaoxing, Jinhua and Taizhou should pay attention to the scale control of tourism industry.

Journal of Beijing International Studies Universit, 2013, 35(11): 38-47.
Abstract( )   [HTML]()   PDF(5048KB)( )
Online Hotel Reviews are an authentic reflection of hotel guests’ perception of hotel service. Despite the existence of some research results on this issue in academia, the majority of them made use of content analysis, which leads to a restricted application of these findings in practice due to its limited ability of batch processing. This study aims to analyze online customer reviews of luxury business hotels in Guangzhou in terms of word frequency and emotion with the combination of text mining and time series analysis methods, in order to predict its development tendency. The research outcomes show that“overall services”and“room”are gaining increasingly attention within online reviews of luxury business hotels by business guests recently. Reviews on service quality are transferring from technical quality to functional quality as well. Secondly, positive emotion dominates online business guest reviews on service quality of luxury business hotels over the years. And its dominance becomes strengthened. Thirdly, the results of time series analysis reveal that in the first half of 2012,“overall services”and “convenience”would be concerned the most within online business guest reviews of luxury business hotels in Guangzhou. In the meantime, more reviews would be accompanied with negative emotions. Limitations and future research suggestions are also discussed.

Journal of Beijing International Studies Universit, 2013, 35(11): 53-62.
Abstract( )   [HTML]()   PDF(5420KB)( )
Tourist facilities have been one of the important sources of environmental problems in tourism areas. The paper inspects the environmental problems in tourism areas from a new perspective of front-back stage structure of service system, and analyzes the negative impacts of both front-stage and back-stage facilities on tourism environment respectively. Based on this the role of the back-stage facilities and functions in tourism environment problems is identified, namely they are one of the most important sources of environmental pollution in tourism areas. With this understanding the paper proposes a new method to cope with the environment problems by applying the principle of front-back stage decoupling, which includes decoupling the front stage and back stage of the individual systems in tourism area, then stripping off those back stage functions related facilities with serious pollution and integrating them to be shared service center of tourism back-stage services which can be environmental—friendly located. This could help to realize higher resource efficiency and facilitate adoption of environmental protection technologies and reduce environmental pollution in the core tourism spots, leading to new ways to problem-solving of tourism environment and sustainable development in tourist areas.
