Prospects for and Development Paths in Translation Education: A Metaverse Perspective

元宇宙视域下翻译教育的发展前景与实践路径

Abstract:

As the technology of the "metaverse+" continues to develop rapidly, it will usher in a new round of scientific and technological revolutions, and will generate unprecedented opportunities for strategic development in translation education. However, there is a lack of research on the integration of metaverse technology and translation education in academia. This paper identifies the major problems in traditional translation education, and explores the potential applications of metaverse technology to the teaching and learning of translation modes, educational resources, and teaching evaluations. Based on the latest development trends in metaverse technology and the new demands for the development of translation as a major, this paper presents three development paths for integrating metaverse technology into translation education. These are: (1) competent translation education departments that strengthen the top-level design of smart translation education and establish the collaborative mechanisms among talent cultivation units, industries, and research institutions in order to construct an innovative translation education pattern that is characterized by the coordinated efforts of the government, enterprises, universities, and research institutions; (2) promoting the awareness of translation teachers and learners regarding the principles underlying digital twins and improving their digital humanities literacy; and (3) encouraging the competent departments, colleges, universities, teachers, and learners that are involved in translation education to upgrade their thinking about smart translation education and to join hands with educational technology supporters to create a new translation education ecology. This paper concludes by urging educators to maintain a rational view of the metaverse, to remain true to the nature of translation education, and to seize the opportunities afforded by the metaverse era to reshape the landscape of translation education.

摘要:

随着"元宇宙+"技术的深入发展,翻译教育行业迎来新一轮科技革命,拥有前所未有的战略发展机遇。然而,当前学界尚缺乏将元宇宙概念与翻译教育进行融合的研究。本文系统梳理传统翻译教育面临的主要问题,探讨元宇宙技术在翻译教学模式、学习模式、教育资源以及教学评价等方面的发展前景,并结合元宇宙技术发展的最新趋势以及翻译专业建设发展的新需求,提出了翻译教育与元宇宙结合的三大实践路径:翻译教育管理部门加强翻译教育智能化顶层设计,建立人才培养单位、行业、科研机构之间的协作机制,形成政产学研融合的创新型翻译教育格局;翻译师生树立数字孪生理念,提升自身数字人文素养;翻译教育管理部门、翻译院校、翻译师生等相关主体升级智慧教育思维,与教育技术支持方携手共建新型翻译教育生态。本文认为,我们需要理性地看待元宇宙,立足翻译教育的本质,把握元宇宙时代的发展机遇,开创翻译教育的新格局。
