Abstract:

Chinese idioms which are abundant, time honored, and widely used, show Chinese speakers’ peculiarity of thought. Studies of Chinese idioms disclose cognitive processes during language comprehension. Professor Zhang Hui’s new book Idiom Representation and Processing: A Neurocognitive Approach is a result of his fifteen years’ research on Chinese idioms. The book has 287 pages, which is divided into 15 chapters, applying event-related potential (ERP) technique to the study on main sub-categories of Chinese idioms, such as phrases, proverbs, xiehouyu and emerging constructions. The book tries to prove viewpoints among linguistic theories and empirical studies of neurolinguistics by combining them with each other, provide convincing evidences with theoretical construction of linguistics, especially to that of cognitive linguistic theories, enrich our understanding of language processing and comprehension in the brain, and offer an important basis to the construction of linguistic comprehension model of psycholinguistics. From an interdisciplinary perspective, the relation between linguistic theories and neuroscientific methods is complicated in that epistemological and methodological questions remain to be tackled. Thus a cohesive correlation between them is in urgent need. The book integrates linguistic and brain views by reporting brand new scientific discoveries and building feasible theoretical models, which is both academically and practically valuable to relevant studies. The review introduces contents and main idea of the book and gives brief comments and expectations.

摘要：

汉语熟语历史悠久、储量丰富、使用广泛,反映了说汉语的人的思维独特性。对汉语熟语进行研究可洞察和深入探讨熟语理解中的认知过程。张辉教授的新作《熟语表征与加工的神经认知研究》是其15年来关于汉语熟语研究的成果结晶。本书共287页,分为15章,运用事件相关电位（ERP）技术对汉语熟语中主要的次范畴进行了研究,其中涉及成语、谚语、歇后语以及浮现中的熟语性构式。本书将语言学的理论与神经语言学的实证研究结合起来,试图达到两者的互证,为语言理论的构建、尤其是为认知语言学理论的构建提供了重要佐证,丰富了我们对语言在大脑中加工和理解的认识,并为心理语言学语言理解模式的构建提供了重要的依据。语言理论与神经科学方法的关系极其复杂,在跨学科视角下,认识论与方法论问题悬而未决,亟需一个互通平台。本书结合语言学和大脑的观点,既汇报了全新的科学发现,又提出了适切的理论框架,对相关研究具有重要学术和实践价值。本文介绍该书的主要内容和基本思想,并作简评与展望。
