空间视阈下《觉醒》中艾德娜的形象新解

Abstract: Edna in The Awakening experiences the spatial migration from the large double cottage to the Grand Isle to the pigeon house and finally to the sea, which not only demonstrates her gradual escape from the patriarchal space, but also indicates the whole process of the awakening, activating and the ultimate destruction of her feminine subjective consciousness. Based on Henri Lefebvre’s spatial triad and Foucault’s theory of Heterotopia, this paper reinterprets the image of Edna and comes to the conclusion that Edna has always been confined to the patriarchal cage during her spatial migration and that her final plunge into the sea is an illustration of her internalization and obedience of the patriarchal discipline instead of answering the call of the feminine self-awareness featuring freedom and independence.

摘要: 《觉醒》中的艾德娜经历了大别墅——格蓝岛——鸽楼——大海的空间位移,这一方面显示了其对父权空间的逐级逃离,同时也呈现了其女性主体意识从沉睡到觉醒、从抗争到最终挫败的心路历程。基于列斐伏尔的空间三元辩证法和福柯的异质空间理论,本文对艾德娜的形象进行了重新解读,认为艾德娜在其空间位移的轨迹中一直没能逃离父权文化的樊笼,其投身大海的最后归宿并非来自象征着自由和独立的女性主体意识的召唤,而是其内化并践行了父权规训的集中体现。
