Abstract:

This interview with Dr. Yu Hongbing, the associate editor of Semiotica, the managing editor of Chinese Semiotic Studies, the associate editor of International Journal of Semiotics and Visual Rhetoric, discusses the current trends and perspectives of semiotic studies published on international journals. In the discussion of the internationalization of Chinese semiotics, this interview emphasizes that the semiotic research with Chinese characteristics is not equal to the revival of ancient Chinese tradition. In the discussion of the so-called “semiotic crisis”, “semiotics of pervasiveness”, Dr. Yu Hongbing pointed out, “this is not a crisis in a strict sense, but rather the embodiment of semiotics advantage. Semiotics can be regarded as a unique methodological tool, which can equip us with a unique cross-cutting perspective, linking to a wide range of areas, such as language, social convention, religion, literature and other seemingly loosely unrelated human behaviors.” In addition, this interview also reviews the semiotic research methods and Sebeok views on semiotics. It is expected to inform Chinese academia of the theoretical and methodological scholarship of international semiotic studies for a better academic conversation.

本文访谈了国际符号学期刊Semiotica副主编、Chinese Semiotic Studies编辑部主任、International Journal of Semiotics and Visual Rhetoric副主编余红兵博士,以了解当前国际符号学期刊发表文章的主要趋势与研究视角。在探讨中国符号学研究国际化的问题时,本访谈特别强调做中国特色的符号学研究与复兴我国古代传统两者并不对等。在探讨所谓的“符号学危机”“符号学无所不包”的常见论断批评的时候,余红兵博士认为上述观点并不足以视为危机,反倒是符号学优势的体现。符号学可以被视为一种独特的方法论工具,能够为我们提供一个独特的横贯性视角,在众多符号系统之间进行联系比较,涉及领域广阔,比如语言文字、社会典章、宗教、文学等各种看似松散不相关的人类表征行为。此外,本访谈也探讨了研究方法以及西比奥克对符号学研究的看法。希望本访谈有助于国内同行了解国际符号学的理论动态、研究方法,从而更好地参与国际学术对话。
