Realization of Ideational Grammatical Metaphor through Conceptual Metaphor and Conceptual Metonymy

Abstract:

Conceptual metaphor and conceptual metonymy are high-level human cognitive working mechanisms concerning experiences while ideational grammatical metaphor focuses on lexical-grammatical expressions of the concepts processed by the high-level cognitive mechanisms. This paper presents a realization framework of ideational grammatical metaphor through conceptual metaphor and conceptual metonymy. The conceptual meaning expressed in the grammatical metaphorical form can be realized through conceptual metaphor and conceptual metonymy. The conceptual meaning expressed via conceptual metaphor and conceptual metonymy motivates the realization of ideational grammatical metaphors. In ideational grammatical metaphor, conceptual metaphor and conceptual metonymy are the main cognitive mechanisms with the changes in process, rank, and form.

摘要：

概念隐喻与概念转喻是人类在认知层面对经验的高层次加工，而概念语法隐喻则关注经过高层次认知加工的概念在词汇—语法层的表达。本文构拟了概念语法隐喻的概念隐喻与概念转喻的实现框架。研究发现：语法隐喻式表达的概念意义可以通过概念隐喻与概念转喻实现；通过概念隐喻与概念转喻对概念意义的表达是概念语法隐喻产生的动因；概念隐喻与概念转喻是概念语法隐喻中过程转换、级阶转换和性状转换的主要认知机制。
