玛丽·罗思夫人的主体建构——论《潘菲利亚致安菲兰瑟斯》中的“忠贞”

Lady Mary Wroth’s Subject Formation: On Constancy in Pamphilia to Amphilanthus

摘要: 作为英国文学史上第一部由女性创作的彼特拉克体十四行组诗,玛丽·罗思夫人的《潘菲利亚致安菲兰瑟斯》是对这一传统男性文体的可贵尝试。本文结合早期现代英国的社会背景和女诗人的个人语境,通过对组诗中“爱情”主题的考察,探讨女性在爱情和婚姻中被动的客体地位对创作的影响,并详细辨析了女诗人是如何通过标举“忠贞”这一核心理念,曲折地争取两性平等、塑造女性自身的主体地位的。但是女诗人塑造的“忠贞”形象,暗合了将女性客体化的社会伦理话语,这使其主体建构行为获得合法性的同时,也蕴含了深刻的自我消解的矛盾。

Abstract: Lady Mary Wroth’s Pamphilia to Amphilanthus,the first Petrarchan sonnet sequence written by a woman writer in the English literary history,was a valuable attempt in the genre traditionally considered male.Focusing on the subject matter“love”,with reference to the social and personal contexts in which the sonnet sequence was produced,the paper explores how the poet’s writing is influenced by women’s passive and objectified position in love and marriage in general,and how she manages to form her own subjectivity by upholding the concept of “constancy”in particular.However,“constant lover”,the image self-fashioned by the poet as a desiring subject,fits well in with the social and ethical discourses of objectifying women in early modern England,which though legitimates the behavior of subject formation by a woman,actually undermines the subject constructed by the poet herself.
